Tired of having to be special?

Being Ordinary

About this site

This website might introduce you to workshops, personal counseling and other resources to help in easing the burden of being unique, special, individual, noticed, or however your ego puts it.

It might remind you that you are fine as you are. Perfect, actually.

About my orientation

We're used to being rewarded for innovation, leadership, remarkability, cleverness, and generally standing out. But that's cultural, not necessary. For a number of years I've been exploring ordinariness, and the related constellation of feelings and experiences that include

    ♦ equanimity

♦ patience
    ♦ gentleness

    and more.

By taking myself out of the need to feel special, a lot of things have relaxed for me. Looking back, it feels like a quest for ordinariness has been a path alongside other paths that opened me to less attachment and more freedom than I ever could have dreamed of.

Working with you, we explore ordinariness as a path to self-realization.

I'm Neal Allen. I'm devoted to freedom as a way of life. A former journalist and corporate executive, I now coach arts organizations and individuals. My primary influences include Plato, Hameed Ali, the Jed McKenna books, Jesus, the Upanishads, the Gita, the Buddha, and J. Krishnamurti. A summary of my path is here.
